Caritas Hungary Establishes a Disaster Relief Base and Contributes 10 Million HUF to Aid Those Affected by the Flood Crisis

Caritas Hungary (CH) has launched an emergency relief operation in response to the third-degree flood alert along the Danube River. The humanitarian organization will release 10 million HUF from its emergency fund for immediate aid, establish a disaster relief base in the riverside village of Nagybajcs, and initiate a donation campaign to support flood protection and damage reduction efforts.

Gábor Écsy, national director of Caritas Hungary, announced that CH will allocate 10 million HUF of emergency aid to procure essential supplies for flood protection, reduce damage, take remedial action and support those affected by the disaster.

A disaster relief base will be set up in Nagybajcs at the local parish. The temporary base will play a central role in coordinating assistance for the flood-stricken areas and efficiently distributing resources, with the involvement of diocesan and local Caritas helpers. The humanitarian organization will also put its Disaster and Emergency Response Team on high alert, who, should the need arise, are trained to carry out rapid aid distribution, damage reduction, remedial action, and psychological first aid, in close cooperation with the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Directorate for Disaster Management.

In light of the flood emergency, Caritas Hungary has launched a fundraising campaign and is asking those who are able to contribute to relief efforts. Support can be given to those living in flood-affected areas by donating online via the Caritas website (www.karitasz.hu) or by making a bank transfer to Caritas' central account (Raiffeisen Bank 12011148–00124534–00100008).
