Humanitarian shipments to Kherson and Lviv
Through the course of April, Caritas Hungary’s team set out on two journeys to Ukraine to deliver humanitarian shipments to those living in the war-torn country.
At the beginning of April, Caritas Hungary, in partnership with Caritas Slovakia and the St. Martin's Caritas of Transcarpathia region, delivered three truckloads of aid to Kherson, a town near the war front in Ukraine. Thanks to the cooperation of the Caritas organisations, food, hygiene products, toiletries, sleeping bags, blankets and medical supplies were delivered to the people of the town, at almost 2,000 km from Budapest.
Two weeks later, the team set out on another journey, at which time the national director of Caritas Hungary, Father Gábor Écsy visited the Lviv Diocesan Caritas. In addition to handing over a relief consignment of three tons of food, sleeping bags and hygiene equipment, they discussed the camping of Ukrainian children in Hungary and further cooperation.
Last autumn, the organisation's warehouse in Lviv was hit by a drone attack, so it was particularly useful to replenish the donations. This meeting also further reinforced our conviction that distance and the passage of time should not make us forget those in need!
